Minecraft, Persona, PAC-MAN and More! / 25th of September 2014
It has been another fairly busy week in the world of videogames, there was the sad news that Games Expo Scotland had been cancelled due to a lack of commitment from publishers (this was a particularly sore one for us), the launch of Bungie’s Destiny, and the surprising announcement of Microsoft’s intention to purchase Minecraft creator Mojang for a fee said to be in the region of $2 billion. Yet, on top of this there was more, and so for those who may have missed them, here are some of the biggest announcements from the last few days…
Nintendo fans in America will be treated to a new, limited edition 3DSXL that will be sold exclusively through Gamestop outlets, and as if that wasn’t enough to enrage their European cousins, the gorgeous design that graces this new release just happens to be based on the new Persona game. Launching alongside Persona Q on November 25th, the console features a grimoire styled front, with the back of the device featuring some of the game’s new character designs. The console will retail, without the game which must be bought separately, for $199.99, whilst Persona Q can be bought in stores, or via the Nintendo e-Shop for $49.99. The first run of physical releases will also come packaged with a set of collectible Tarot cards, and will be housed in special packaging to accommodate these.
Jagex confirmed that both Wheeljack and Knock Out will be featured in its upcoming Transformers Universe game, the news was prematurely leaked to the public, but the developer was quick to respond. There are still many unknowns about both these characters, such as their weapon load outs and special abilities, but these are set to be announced by the company in due course. For those that don’t know anything about the game, Transformers Universe is an MMO, tactical action game, with more than 750,000 users already signed up to engage in the ongoing struggle between the Autobots and the Decepticons. Unfortunately though, the character designs appear to be based on the Michael Bay movies, so Gen 1 fans will probably want to give this a miss.
Namco Bandai have announced that PAC-MAN and the Ghostly Adventures 2 will be released on October 3rd on 3DS, PS3, Wii U and Xbox 360. Delving further into the wonderful world and characters of the hugely successful television series, this latest release pitches PAC-MAN, Cylindria and Spiral into a struggle to save PacWorld from the evil Lord Betrayus. For fans of the first game, this is sure to be a must have title when it is released, whilst everyone else should keep an eye on our site for the definitive verdict on the latest adventure of one of gaming’s most iconic and enduring characters.
The release date for Devolver Digital’s Shadow Warrior has now been confirmed by publisher Namco Bandai as being October 24th, and if you are anything like us, it is a date to be noted in your diary. This highly stylised looking romp tells the story of Lo Wang, a man charged with finding a legendary sword by his employer, Zilla Enterprises, only to discover that this ancient weapon holds ties to gods, and inadvertently push the world towards the brink of destruction. Using a blend of magic, blades and even gunplay, Lo Wang must discover the origins of the threat that terrorises his world and put a stop to it once and for all. Shadow Warrior is set to launch on both PS4 and Xbox One, and is a game that we hope to bring you our verdict on closer to the time.
